Creating a Family - Forever
As a volunteer photographer for the Heart Gallery, Donna’s modus operandi is to capture Micah on film. The Heart Gallery does the rest—organizing shows in public places where the photos act as the initial connection between child and the possibility of a forever family.
Donna takes her responsibilities to heart. As a former adoptee who has both her birth and adopted families perched in her family tree, she knows the impact that the initial contact can have. “It’s very important to make that connection, your family connection,” says Donna. “Being adopted, I thought that [the portraits] were a great way to introduce people to the idea of adopting the children.”
Donna is just one of hundreds of photographers working on portraits of adoptable children with the Heart Gallery, a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping find forever families for children whose circumstances often make it tough to place them with the right family. Siblings, special-needs children, and children who are close to “aging out” of the system—each one is captured by the lens. And the result? A chance for the true child to find his or her way into the heart and home of a family. Forever.
