Secrets to a Successful Interview

I didn’t fully appreciate the value of written oral histories until I was in college and took a class from a professor who has conducted nearly a thousand interviews, seven hundred of them with war veterans. In addition to the many college students he has taught, Don Norton has also taught hundreds of Elderhostel guests who have visited the university to attend genealogy workshops.

When we first embarked upon this search for our family history, few of us could have imagined the mounds of paper we would be rapidly acquiring. We may have started with a few binders or file folders and perhaps a corner drawer or file box waiting and ready for the new information we would find. But these humble beginnings have long since been dwarfed by the needs of our genealogical collections.
