1. What is an e-zine—and why does Ancestry Magazine have one? “E-zine” is short for electronic magazine. Beginning with the July/August 2007 issue of Ancestry Magazine, we began offering this Ancestry Magazine—digital edition (an e-zine) to all paid annual subscribers of Ancestry.com and Ancestry Magazine in order to provide our customers with even more information to help them advance their family history research.
2. Why am I now receiving an e-zine? Beginning with the July/August 2007 issue of Ancestry Magazine, annual subscribers to Ancestry.com and Ancestry Magazine began receiving Ancestry Magazine—digital edition as part of their paid subscription.
3. I’ve been a subscriber for years—why have I never received Ancestry Magazine—digital edition before? The July/August 2007 issue was our inaugural issue of Ancestry Magazine—digital edition.
4. Now that I have the electronic version, why should I look at the print version of Ancestry Magazine? While the print and digital editions of Ancestry Magazine do contain some identical stories, each edition also contains unique content that you won’t find in the other edition. For example, in our September/October 2007 print edition of Ancestry Magazine, the Tomorrow section features an article on people resurrecting old jobs and tasks for the sake of history, as well as shorter pieces on squatter’s rights, using electronic resources to create custom family history maps, and information about burial customs and finding death-related records. In the digital version, these articles have been replaced by a special section—DNA and Your Family Tree—that explains the whys, the hows, and the future of using DNA to complement your family history research.
5. I already have a print subscription. What makes the digital edition so special? First, as a subscriber to Ancestry Magazine, you’ll get the benefit of having both the original content exclusive to the print and digital editions. Additionally, the digital edition is accessible from anywhere you have Internet access (go to
6. Is the digital edition going to affect my print subscription? No—the digital edition is merely an added benefit of your existing subscription.
7. As a subscriber of Ancestry.com, I’m receiving the digital edition but I’d also like to subscribe to the print edition—how can I do this? You can subscribe to Ancestry Magazine by clicking on the Ancestry Magazine ad in your digital edition or by calling 1-800-ANCESTRY.
8. Is Ancestry Magazine—digital edition replacing my Ancestry.com newsletters? No. Ancestry.com still publishes its electronic newsletters including the Ancestry Weekly Journal and the Ancestry Monthly Update. If you are not receiving your newsletters and would like to, go to Ancestry.com and select My Account and choose “Update your newsletter and marketing e-mail preferences” to ensure you’ve opted to receive the newsletters. If so and you’re still not receiving the newsletters, try the following solutions:
□ Add AncestryMonthlyUpdate@email.ancestry.com to your safe sender list or address book.
□ Check your “Junk” or “Trash” folders to see if your newsletters were directed there by mistake.
□ Contact your Internet Service Provider to see if the newsletter is being blocked.
9. How do I turn pages? How do I make the digital edition work? The toolbar located directly above the top of the page you’re viewing will allow you to move through the magazine. And you can click on the first arrow on your tool bar to be taken to a quick how-to on navigating the digital edition
10. The text is too small. How can I make it bigger? Just click anywhere on a page to magnify the text; click again to return to the standard page view. You can also increase or decrease your magnification through the Settings button on the toolbar. Under “Choose zoom factor for page view,” click a level that works for you. Click Set to apply your changes.
11. How do I download the digital edition so I can read it when I’m not online?
a. On a PC: Click Download on the toolbar and then Download for PC. If your download doesn’t start immediately, click the link provided. A “File Download—Security Warning” window will open. Click Save and choose where you’d like the digital magazine to download. During this process, you may need to temporarily disable your pop-up blocker. Your digital edition of Ancestry Magazine will safely download to your specified location. From there, select its icon and, if prompted, select Run.
b. On a Mac: Click Download on the toolbar and then Download for Mac. The digital magazine will automatically download as an application on your desktop.
12. I’d like to have the digital edition delivered to a different e-mail address. How can I do that? Your digital edition of Ancestry Magazine can only be delivered to the e-mail address associated with your Ancestry.com or Ancestry Magazine subscription. You can change this e-mail address via the “My Account” tab on Ancestry.com or by calling 1-800-ANCESTRY. 13. I accidentally hit the unsubscribe button. How do I re-subscribe? To re-subscribe to the digital edition, e-mail us at editor@ancestrymagazine.com with “RESUBSCRIBE” in the subject heading. Print edition subscription questions should be directed to 1-800-ANCESTRY.
